Ring Of Fire is the title of the latest project circa May 2004. The Ring Of Fire project began even before the previous project SUPERNOVA was complete. The beautiful "Lady" in my hands is my favorite guitar in the world, a Gibson L5 CES similar to guitars used by Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell and many other extraordinary guitarists. For Love Of The Guitar was the projects' first experimental piece and combines a Son Montuno with a Hip-Hop beat using a Classical guitar. The title phrase 'Ring Of Fire' is a Geological reference. The original concept for the Ring Of Fire project was to compose music named for several of the major members of the ring: a set of volcanoes from South America up to the North American Continent to East Asia then south and east back to South America. Basically the borders of the Pacific Ocean, referred to as the Pacific Rim. I've no idea how I'm going to effectively do this, ...yet. What can I say, volcanoes have always fascinated me, especially underwater volcanoes. Regarding the track: For Love Of The Guitar; it was composed in one day (sounds like it doesn't it?) and recorded over three to four days. Michael Dawson <See Photo Here> is featured on percussion after a lengthy introduction. Mike's all over the place on Timbales and Bongos. He came to AIP Studios, heard this track and simply started playing along. We recorded it and mixed it in later. It was just the touch it needed.
