ELIXIR STRINGS used by WAYNE RAGLAN

Fans and Practitioners of Guitar Music (like myself) understandably wonder which strings are used on which instruments and pieces. This page is dedicated to which strings were used where and when. The Elixir Company was kind enough to supply the artwork and where their strings are applied, they are absolutely wonderful to hear and play! The instrument in my hands above uses Elixir Polyweb* 11's (as listed below) including my Gibson 175 TD (as pictured by the Elixir Company just right of their logo).

*Nanoweb Versus Polyweb

What’s the difference between NANOWEB® and POLYWEB® coatings?

The difference between Elixir coating ‘flavors’ is found in the tone and feel of the strings. NanoWeb® coated strings sound and feel like uncoated strings – they are bright and lively, and the coating is so micro thin that you can barely tell it’s there.
PolyWeb® coated strings have a balanced tone and smooth response – they sound like strings that have been ‘played in’. In addition, PolyWeb® coated strings feel comfortably smooth and help reduce finger squeak.

*Elixir no longer manufactures Polyweb 11's. The present substitution include Gibson 11's (various) and DR Extra Life 11's (Black; DR Extra Life strings also come in other colors, although our understanding is that the color is purely cosmetic), Thomastik-Infeld 11's and the absolutely wonderful Optima Gold Plated 12's.
